Hurricane gift at friend’s wedding to ‘protest load shedding’

At a wedding ceremony in Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar, friends gifted the groom a hurricane. This video has spread on social media Facebook. Friends said that they gave this gift to protest the frequent load-shedding of electricity in the area.

In the video, it can be seen that some youths are handing the hurricane to the groom during the wedding ceremony. Among them, two young men were saying that they are giving this gift in protest against loadshedding. Names of Ruel Ahmed and Sultan Ahmed were written on the paper attached to the Hurricane.

It has been revealed that local Mudidokani Raju Ahmad, a resident of East Fatiguli village of Karmadha union of the upazila, married a young woman from the same area on April 27. At the wedding, his friends Ruel and Sultan presented hurricanes.

The mobile numbers of Ruel and Sultan were not available after various attempts to get a statement on this matter. However, another friend of theirs named Ibadur Rahman was spoken to. Ibadur’s house is also in East Photiguli village. He teaches in a local madrasa. This afternoon, he told Prothom Alo on the phone, “Load shedding has increased in the area for some days. Electricity is not available for hours. Mobile does not charge. Loss of business. Meanwhile, SSC and Dakhil exams are going on. Students cannot study. Apart from this, the area was without electricity for about 38 hours continuously a few days ago. So two friends present hurricanes to Raju’s (groom) wedding. In fact, this exceptional gift is given to protest against load shedding.
