Police Constable Found Dead in Apparent Suicide at Dhaka Barracks

A 21-year-old police constable, Saidul Islam, was found dead in an apparent suicide at the Public Order Management (POM) barracks in Dhaka’s Demra area late Thursday night.
According to local police officials, the incident occurred on the seventh floor of the POM building. Saidul, a native of Feni Sadar who had been in the service for only nine months, was reportedly alone in a shared dormitory room while other officers were on duty. A colleague discovered the door bolted from the inside shortly after midnight and alerted authorities.
Officers from the Demra police station arrived at the scene and broke down the door, where they discovered Saidul hanging from the ceiling fan by a scarf. Despite immediate efforts to transport him to a local facility and subsequently to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Investigators currently believe the death to be a suicide based on preliminary evidence gathered at the scene. Saidul’s uncle, Md. Sohag, confirmed his identity and professional background to reporters following the incident.
The body has been transferred to the DMCH morgue for a post-mortem examination as the investigation continues.
