PM Tareque Rahman Seeks Editor Cooperation on New Media Policy

Prime Minister Tareque Rahman has called on newspaper editors to collaborate in the drafting of new guidelines for the media, emphasizing the necessity of a regulatory framework that fosters both professional standards and press freedom. During a meeting held Monday at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Secretariat, Rahman urged media leaders to maintain a balanced perspective by offering constructive criticism of the government alongside objective reporting on its positive initiatives.
The Prime Minister’s request came during a formal dialogue with a delegation from the National Editors Council. According to Deputy Press Secretary Md. Sujauddoula, the meeting focused on the state of the domestic media landscape and the government’s ongoing efforts to formalize industry regulations.

The eight-member delegation was led by National Editors Council Convener and Jayjaydin editor Shafik Rehman, alongside joint convener and Amar Desh editor Mahmudur Rahman. The group also included Daily Pratidiner Bangladesh editor Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel, Naya Diganta editor Salahuddin Muhammad Babar, Jugantor editor Abdul Hai Shikdar, National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz, Wada editor Shafiqul Alam, and Manabkantha editor Shahidul Islam.
