Ousted Juba Dal leader cries on Facebook live over exclusion from new district committee

A former leader of the Lakshmipur District Juba Dal sparked widespread social media attention on Wednesday after breaking down in tears during a Facebook live stream, expressing his frustration over being excluded from the organization’s newly formed committee.

The controversy surrounds Suman Chowdhury, who previously served as a member of the district unit’s executive committee. His emotional reaction followed the official announcement of a 101-member committee, signed by Minhajul Islam Bhuiyan, joint general secretary of the central executive committee of Juba Dal. The new leadership structure appointed Abdul Alim Humayun as president and Saikat Rashidul Hasan as general secretary.

In a video lasting more than 10 minutes, Chowdhury questioned the criteria used to select the new leadership. Claiming to have spent 17 years active on the front lines of political movements, he questioned why his commitment was overlooked, asserting that he had effectively been unable to sleep at home for nearly two decades due to his political involvement. He further alleged that the new committee included individuals who had remained inactive for years, as well as some who had been living abroad, prompting him to demand an explanation from the district party leadership.

Responding to the grievances, newly appointed District Juba Dal President Abdul Alim Humayun acknowledged the incident and expressed sympathy for the frustration voiced by party members. He noted that the district holds at least 1,000 qualified and dedicated activists who played significant roles in the party’s struggle over the past 17 years. According to Humayun, the limitation of a 101-member committee necessitated difficult decisions, resulting in the exclusion of many deserving candidates.

Humayun stated that the party leadership has taken note of Chowdhury’s concerns and is currently in discussions with central committee members to explore potential positive measures to address the situation.
