Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam has decided not to take government fuel benefits in April, May and June. This information was known from a circular of the cabinet department last Thursday. Fakir Mahbub Anam is also the Minister of Science and Technology.

Fakir Mahbub Anam told Prothom Alo that he took this decision as part of the government’s austerity program due to the ongoing energy crisis in the country.

According to the notification of the Cabinet Department, Fakir Mahbub Anam, the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Ministry of Science and Technology, has expressed his desire not to take the fuel benefits to which he is entitled in the months of April, May and June 2026. Instructions are requested to take necessary action in this regard.

Salaries and other benefits of Ministers, Ministers of State, Deputy Ministers and Members of Parliament are provided as per ‘The Ministers, Ministers of State and Deputy Ministers (Remuneration and Privileges) Act’. This ordinance was promulgated on April 4, 1973 by the order of the then President Justice Abu Saeed Chowdhury. The Ordinance was last amended on May 12, 2016. Salaries and other benefits of ministers, state ministers, deputy ministers and members of parliament are being determined under this.

According to the Act, energy ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers get Rs. 18 liters of fuel per day. Apart from this, they get transport allowance of 70 thousand taka per month.

Earlier, when the Middle East war started, the government reduced the monthly allocation for the vehicles of the Prime Minister, Ministers and Ministers of State for official activities on the 3rd of this month amid the energy crisis. At that time, it was informed that the Prime Minister, Ministers and Ministers of State will take 30 percent less of the monthly allocation of energy.
