Dhaka police seize 70kg of cannabis in Jatrabari raid

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detectives arrested a man and seized 70 kilograms of cannabis in the capital’s Jatrabari area on Saturday, authorities confirmed. The illicit cargo, with an estimated street value of 2.8 million taka, was discovered inside a pickup truck near the Tungipara Express bus counter at Dolairpar intersection.

Acting on a tip-off, the Detective Branch (DB) intercepted a blue Tata Motors pickup truck at approximately 6:45 a.m. During the subsequent search, officers recovered the cannabis stored in 28 separate polythene packets.

The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Md. Ramzan Chowdhury, is a resident of Amratali in the Comilla Adarsha Sadar upazila. Police have seized the vehicle used in the transport of the narcotics.

Following the operation, officials confirmed that a case has been filed against Chowdhury at the Jatrabari Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act. The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to identify the broader network behind the shipment.
