One of Two Missing Bangladeshi Students Found Dead in US

Police in Florida have recovered the body of one of two Bangladeshi doctoral students who vanished more than a week ago, while the search continues for the second missing student. Jamil Ahmed Limon, 27, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of South Florida (USF), was found deceased Friday after authorities questioned his roommate, who has since been arrested.

Limon’s body was discovered near Florida’s Howard Frankland Bridge, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Police have identified the arrested individual as Hisham Abugharabeh, 26, Limon’s roommate. The cause of death was not immediately released.

Authorities are still searching for the second missing student, Nahida S. Brishty, also a Bangladeshi Ph.D. candidate at USF studying chemical engineering. The USF Police Department stated that both Limon, who was pursuing a doctorate in geography, environmental science, and policy, and Brishty were last seen on April 16.

Limon was last observed around 9 a.m. at his student residence near the university, while Brishty was last seen at approximately 10 a.m. in the university’s Natural and Environmental Sciences building. A family friend reported the two missing on April 17 after being unable to contact them, prompting police investigations.

Golam Mortoza, Press Minister at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, confirmed the recovery of Limon’s body via a Facebook post, describing the news as “heartbreaking.” Mortoza noted that police retrieved Limon’s remains after interrogating a suspect in the disappearance of the two students, adding that information regarding Brishty remains unknown as the investigation and questioning of the suspect continue.
