New Local Government Minister Abdul Moyeen Khan Vows to Hold Elections in Strict Compliance with Constitution

Newly appointed Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Abdul Moyeen Khan pledged on Sunday that the government will adhere strictly to constitutional mandates in organizing upcoming local government elections.

Speaking at the Secretariat during an introductory exchange with department heads and media representatives, Minister Khan emphasized that the current administration would depart from the electoral practices of the previous government. He asserted that the government is committed to conducting democratic and transparent elections, distancing the process from the conduct of past regimes.

State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam was present during the briefing.

Addressing the political landscape, Minister Khan defended the legacy of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), stating that while the party is often characterized as originating from military cantonments, it was the late President Ziaur Rahman who restored democracy after it had been dismantled by the Awami League. He further stated that the BNP remains committed to a political philosophy that rejects the politics of vengeance.

Regarding administrative accountability, the minister declared a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption. He warned that any individuals found engaging in corrupt activities would face legal consequences through the Anti-Corruption Commission and established judicial processes.
