Humayun Kabir took the oath of office as state minister for foreign affairs on Friday, moving into the technocrat ministerial role after previously serving as the prime minister’s foreign affairs adviser with the rank of state minister.
Born in Sylhet, Kabir relocated to the United Kingdom with his family at the age of two. He was raised and educated in Britain, where he eventually became active in the Labour Party and acquired British citizenship.
Following his appointment to the cabinet, questions have emerged regarding his current citizenship status and whether he has formally renounced his British nationality.
