Tangail college professor receives grand farewell after thirty years of service

SAKHIPUR, Tangail — A veteran educator in Tangail was given an emotional and grand farewell on Monday as he concluded a 30-year teaching career at Sakhipur Residential Women’s College. AK Fazlul Haque Mia, an assistant professor and head of the English department, was escorted to his residence in a decorated private car flanked by a procession of 40 motorcycles.
The farewell ceremony, held at the college premises, saw colleagues and students celebrate the professor’s long tenure. Overcome with emotion during the event, Professor Mia struggled to hold back tears as he received accolades from the college administration and students.
“I never imagined I would receive such immense honor on my final day,” said Professor Mia. “I will never forget this regal farewell for the rest of my life.”
The event was presided over by the college principal, MA Rauf, and attended by Sakhipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Ashraful Alam as the chief guest. Nazim Uddin, acting president of the local branch of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), served as a special guest. Several other faculty members, administrators, and students delivered speeches praising the professor’s character and commitment to education.
As the ceremony concluded, Professor Mia was presented with commemorative crests and gifts from both the college administration and the English department. Following the formalities, a motorcade led the professor, accompanied by his wife Saleha Begum and their two daughters, on a three-kilometer journey to his home in Ward 8 of Sakhipur municipality.
Principal MA Rauf lauded the departing educator, describing him not only as a skilled teacher but also as a person of high moral integrity who remained deeply popular among the student body throughout his tenure.
Professor Mia began his career in 1992 as a lecturer at Hatiya Degree College. He joined Sakhipur Residential Women’s College in 1996, where he eventually rose to the rank of assistant professor and led the English department until his retirement.
