NCP Suspends Bogura Leader Over Kidnapping and Extortion Charges

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has suspended Shaukat Imran, its organizational secretary for the Bogra district, following serious allegations of kidnapping and extortion. The party’s central convening committee issued a formal notice on Tuesday, demanding a written explanation within two working days as to why further disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
The disciplinary measures stem from allegations of moral turpitude and actions deemed contrary to the party’s organizational discipline. According to M.S.A. Mahmud, the convener of the NCP Bogra district committee, the decision was prompted not only by the criminal charges filed against Imran but also by the recent circulation of an explicit video on social media involving the official.
The legal action against Imran follows a complaint filed at Bogra Sadar Police Station on Sunday by Ashraful Islam, a junior trainee officer at the Naogaon branch of Islami Bank. In his statement to the police, Islam alleged that he was intercepted by Imran and his associates near the Trimatha Railgate area on Saturday while returning home from an ATM booth. He claimed he was forcibly taken to a student dormitory, assaulted, and robbed of 82,000 taka, two mobile phones, and his ATM card at gunpoint.
Shaukat Imran has categorically denied the allegations, framing the incident as an act of public accountability rather than a crime. He alleged that the bank official was involved in online fraud through the use of fake social media profiles under various women’s names. Imran claimed he had confronted Islam regarding a transaction involving 25,000 taka owed to an acquaintance, asserting that the mobile phones were examined to verify evidence of fraud before the money was returned.
