Two Die in Separate Snakebite Incidents in Faridpur District

Two separate snakebite incidents in Faridpur’s Saltha upazila resulted in the deaths of a woman and a young child on Tuesday, according to local officials. The tragedies occurred in the villages of Pisnail and Sonatondi within the Ballavdi union.
The first incident claimed the life of 42-year-old Saraswati Mandal. While working near her home in Pisnail village during the morning, she inadvertently stepped into a hole, where she was struck by a venomous snake. Family members rushed her to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment early in the afternoon.
Later that same day, three-year-old Sakiba Akter was bitten while playing near her home in Sonatondi village. The child reportedly reached into an animal burrow, mistaking it for a mouse hole. Her family initially sought assistance from a local traditional healer, who failed to identify the snakebite. As the child’s condition rapidly deteriorated, she was transported to the Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex in neighboring Gopalganj, where attending physicians declared her dead.
Ballavdi Union Parishad Chairman Khandaker Saifur Rahman confirmed both fatalities. Following the incidents, local authorities initiated two unnatural death cases. According to Officer-in-Charge of Saltha Police Station, Bablur Rahman Khan, the bodies were released to the grieving families without post-mortem examinations at their request.
