Narsingdi College Student Dies After Being Struck by Train

A 22-year-old student of Narsingdi Government College died after being struck by a train in Narsingdi on Monday, according to local railway police.
The victim, Mehedi Hasan Rifat, a first-year Bengali department student, was killed near the Hajipur Puranpara railway bridge. A native of Chandipasha in Nandail, Mymensingh, Rifat had been commuting to Narsingdi from his family’s residence in Gazipur’s Kaliganj.
Authorities and witnesses reported that Rifat had spent the previous night at the college dormitory. On Monday morning, he ventured toward the Puranpara railway bridge area. While walking along the tracks around noon, he was struck by the Dhaka-bound Chattala Express. The force of the impact dragged him approximately 50 yards, resulting in fatal injuries at the scene.
Sub-Inspector Dilip Chandra Sarkar of the Narsingdi Railway Police outpost, who recovered the remains, stated that eyewitnesses reported the student was distracted by a mobile phone conversation while walking on the tracks. The collision caused extensive trauma, dismembering the body.
Police identified the victim using an ID card found in his pockets alongside a shattered mobile phone. After contacting the family through the SIM card retrieved from the wreckage, officials awaited their arrival at the outpost. Following formal identification by family members, the railway police released the body without an autopsy at the family’s request, noting that no complaints of foul play were filed.
