A 39-year-old scrap metal dealer was killed in a brutal attack in the Kalurgaon village of Munshiganj’s Louhajang upazila early Wednesday, police said. The victim, identified as Sohel Munshi, was discovered in his courtyard with fatal wounds, while his motorcycle was found burning nearby.

Family members reported that Munshi had retired to his room after dinner on Tuesday night, while his wife, Nupur, was sleeping in an adjacent room with their child and her mother-in-law. The family was alerted to the violence around 2:30 a.m. when they noticed a fire in the courtyard. Upon rushing outside, they found Munshi’s body and his torched motorcycle.

Relatives suspect that the assailants lured Munshi out of his home before attacking him with sharp weapons. They believe the perpetrators set the motorcycle on fire in an attempt to destroy forensic evidence and mislead investigators.

Local police arrived at the scene early Wednesday morning to recover the body, which has since been sent to the Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Louhajang Police Station Officer-in-Charge Borhanul Islam stated that authorities are investigating several potential motives, including disputes related to the victim’s scrap business or conflicts involving illegal narcotics.

As reported by Prothom Alo, police have launched an operation to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the slaying. Officers remain on-site as the investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
