Police in Muksudpur, Gopalganj, have arrested a 28-year-old man following allegations that he bound, beat, and forcibly cut his wife’s hair while their two young children looked on. The incident, which has drawn widespread condemnation, occurred on Monday night at the couple’s home in a remote village, prompting a police rescue operation early Tuesday morning.

According to local reports, the suspect, Nazmul Sheikh, engaged in an argument with his 25-year-old wife before locking the doors and immobilizing her. For several hours, the woman was subjected to physical abuse in the presence of her eight-year-old and four-year-old children. Neighbors, alerted by the woman’s cries for help the following morning, contacted authorities. Police arrived to find the door locked from the inside, forcing them to break in to rescue the victim and her children.

Prior to his arrest, Sheikh reportedly defended his actions to bystanders, claiming he believed his wife intended to leave him and that he had restrained her to prevent her departure. Nazrul Islam Matubbar, the local Union Parishad chairman, confirmed that Sheikh was known to be a habitual drug user who had a history of domestic violence.

Muksudpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody. While a formal case is in the process of being filed, authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident, pledging that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings.
