Sylhet Range Claims IGP Cup Football Title as Police Chief Emphasizes Fitness and Sporting Excellence

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir has underscored the force’s commitment to athletic excellence, aiming to restore the historical prominence of Bangladesh Police in both national and international sporting arenas. Speaking as the chief guest at the final of the IGP Cup 2025, held Friday at the newly inaugurated Bangladesh Police Football Ground in Purbachal, Dhaka, the IGP emphasized that sports are essential for maintaining the physical and mental well-being required to navigate the rigors of modern policing.
The final match, which showcased high-level competition, saw the Sylhet Range football team secure a 1-0 victory over the Chattogram Range to claim the championship title. Following the match, the IGP praised the sportsmanship displayed by both sides, urging personnel to continue their disciplined training to reach peak performance levels. Individual accolades were also presented during the ceremony, with Sylhet Range’s Jibon earning the title of Man of the Match and Amirul recognized as the Player of the Tournament.
The award ceremony was presided over by Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Bangladesh Police Football Club President Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, with Dhaka District Superintendent of Police and club General Secretary Shamima Parveen delivering the welcome address. The event was attended by various senior officers, including Additional IGPs and other invited dignitaries.
Earlier in the day, IGP Fakir performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the POHS Green Mart, a project spearheaded by the Bangladesh Police Welfare Trust, located within the POHS-1 residential area. These initiatives reflect a broader departmental strategy to integrate community development and physical fitness into the organizational culture of the Bangladesh Police.
