Mother and two daughters killed in Netrokona bus accident

A collision between a passenger bus and an electric three-wheeler in Netrokona on Sunday left three people dead and five others critically injured. The accident occurred on the Netrokona-Mymensingh highway near the Chalisha area when a Mahua Paribahan bus traveling toward Netrokona struck the battery-operated vehicle heading toward Shyamganj.

The victims have been identified as 45-year-old Nurjahan Begum and her two daughters, 15-year-old Smriti Akter and 9-year-old Sumaiya Akter, all residents of Amli Keshabpur village. Nurjahan Begum died at the scene, while her daughters were declared dead upon arrival at the Netrokona 250-bed District Hospital.

Five others, including the driver of the three-wheeler, Rohan Mia, were rushed to the district hospital with severe injuries. Following initial stabilization, the survivors were transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

The incident sparked immediate unrest, with local residents blocking the highway for approximately two hours in protest. The situation was brought under control following the intervention of the Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer and local police authorities.

According to Hafizul Islam, the additional superintendent of police and spokesperson for the Netrokona district police, the bus involved in the collision has been impounded. Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the crash and are actively searching for the bus driver, who fled the scene following the accident.
