Mob Attacks Police to Free Murder Suspect in Narsingdi

Police in Narsingdi’s Raipura upazila were ambushed by a mob on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the escape of a wanted criminal who had been taken into custody. The incident occurred near the Sayadabad ferry terminal in the Sreenagar union of the remote char region.
Authorities had successfully apprehended 42-year-old Salim Munshi, who faces multiple charges including murder, following an operation led by Sub-Inspector Md. Shahjahan and a 10-member police team. The suspect, a local resident of the Sayadabad area, was being transported back to the police station when the convoy was intercepted.
According to police accounts, between 40 and 50 individuals armed with sticks and bricks surrounded the officers at the ferry terminal. The ensuing assault resulted in injuries to Constable Abdul Alim, who was struck by a brick. Amid the chaos and the coordinated attack, the assailants forcibly freed Munshi and fled the scene.
Constable Alim was transported to the Raipura Upazila Health Complex for treatment. Dr. Nusrat Jahan, who attended to the officer, confirmed he sustained a shoulder injury and required further diagnostic imaging.
Officer-in-Charge of Raipura Police Station, Mujibur Rahman, acknowledged the breach, noting that a large crowd had gathered quickly during the arrest process. Police officials stated that follow-up operations are being organized to recapture the suspect, with law enforcement planning to return to the Sreenagar area to apprehend Munshi again.
