Suspected Robber Killed by Mob at Tangail Infrastructure Facility

A man was killed in a mob beating on Friday afternoon after allegedly attempting to rob a road infrastructure maintenance facility in Tangail’s Mirzapur upazila. The incident occurred at the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority’s (BRTA) Road Operational Unit, currently under construction near the Kadimdhalla and Katra village border along the Dhaka-Tangail highway.
The deceased, identified as 25-year-old Shukur Ali, was a resident of Nagarbarli village in the Kalihati upazila of the district. Police reports indicate that Ali had a history of criminal activity, with at least four pending theft cases registered against him at various police stations.
According to local accounts and police, a group of six to seven individuals arrived at the facility in a pickup truck during Friday prayer hours. When the on-duty security guard, Khokon Sheikh, attempted to bar their entry, he was assaulted by the group. The guard’s cries for help alerted nearby residents and commuters on the highway, who rushed to the scene.
While the other members of the group managed to flee upon seeing the crowd, Shukur Ali was captured by locals and subjected to a severe beating, resulting in his death at the scene. Khokon Sheikh, who suffered a head injury requiring stitches, was transported to the Mirzapur Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Mirzapur police station sub-inspector Ramiz Rayhan confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway. Abdullah Al Mamun, the officer-in-charge of the Mirzapur police station, stated that the body would be released to the victim’s family following the completion of standard legal procedures.
