NCP leader condemns political violence following attack on party activists in Kurigram

Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) leader Atiq Mujahid vowed to continue his resistance against political violence on Friday, shortly after visiting injured party members receiving treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital. The Kurigram-2 lawmaker, who also serves as the party’s organizing secretary for the Rangpur division, condemned a recent attack on a peaceful protest march in Phulbari as a stark manifestation of systemic political terrorism.
Expressing deep indignation, Mujahid questioned the nature of the brutality, noting that the nation is still mourning the lives lost during the events of July. He highlighted the severe plight of a student participant, a “July fighter” currently enrolled in intermediate studies, who suffered the loss of his eyesight during the assault. Mujahid lamented that while the public had hoped for a transition toward civilized political discourse in the post-July landscape, such acts of violence suggest a regression into lawlessness.
During his visit, Mujahid addressed the condition of a victim named Shawon, describing his health as precarious. He emphasized that Shawon, who comes from a fatherless family, was subjected to unprovoked violence, labeling the act as inherently uncivilized.
The lawmaker issued a defiant challenge to the perpetrators, stating that even if he and his colleagues were to lose their lives, their commitment to the people of the region would remain steadfast. He called upon the government to hold those responsible within the ruling party accountable, emphasizing that his party remains committed to the rule of law while awaiting evidence of the current administration’s respect for the judicial process.
