Fatal accident footage sparks grief as family confirms victim identity

A collision between a passenger bus and a minibus on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway late Thursday has left four people dead and several others injured, plunging multiple families into mourning. The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the Shikolbaha area of Karnaphuli, when a four-wheeled vehicle heading toward Patiya collided head-on with an Eagle Paribahan bus traveling toward Chattogram.

Emergency responders transported the victims to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where three individuals were pronounced dead shortly after arrival. A fourth victim succumbed to his injuries at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Friday. Several other passengers remain hospitalized, receiving treatment for varying degrees of trauma.

The victims have been identified as 53-year-old Mohammad Yusuf, 26-year-old Sajib Hossain, 26-year-old Emdadul Islam, also known as Rubel, and 51-year-old Harunur Rashid. For the family of Mohammad Yusuf, a grill worker from Khanmohana village, the loss has been particularly devastating. His son, Mohammad Musa, recounted discovering his father’s death after seeing a live video of the crash site posted on social media. Yusuf, who supported his family through daily wage labor alongside his son, leaves behind a wife and two children who are now facing severe financial and emotional uncertainty.

As families gathered at the hospital morgue on Friday morning to claim the remains of their loved ones, scenes of profound grief unfolded. Relatives of the deceased, including the mother and sister of Emdadul Islam, were overcome by shock, with many struggling to process the sudden nature of the tragedy.

In the wake of the incident, families are calling for a thorough investigation and justice for those lost. Mohammad Musa confirmed that police have recorded formal statements regarding the collision and urged authorities to hold those responsible for the crash accountable. Burial ceremonies for the victims were scheduled to take place following Jumu’ah prayers on Friday.
