Kalaroa House: Suspicious Objects Unresolved After 27 Hours, Bomb Squad Awaited

KOLAROA, SATKHIRA – A tense situation in Bangladesh’s Satkhira district remains unresolved, with three bomb-like objects found at a residence in Kolaroa Upazila leaving local authorities in a more than 27-hour standoff as they await a specialized bomb disposal team. The discovery has prompted a security cordon around the home, with no clear timeline for the objects’ examination and removal.

The alarming discovery was made on Thursday morning by sisters Sajeda and Majida. As they prepared to leave their home in Chondonpur village’s West Para, they found the suspicious devices tied to their collapsible gate, near the kitchen, and on a drumstick tree within their property. Fearing for their safety, the sisters remained inside and alerted local residents, who subsequently informed the police.

Kolaroa Police arrived swiftly, establishing a cordon around the property by 9 a.m. Thursday. According to Kolaroa Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) H. M. Shahin, police maintained the perimeter until 5 p.m. that day, after which responsibility for securing the site was transferred to the village police.

OC Shahin confirmed that a formal request for an explosives expert team was dispatched to the Jashore Cantonment on Thursday afternoon. However, as of noon on Friday, no team from Jashore Cantonment had arrived in Kolaroa to examine the objects. “Necessary measures will be taken as soon as the team arrives,” Shahin stated.

The sisters, Sajeda and Majida, have suggested a potential motive for the unsettling discovery, claiming they had a verbal altercation with neighbors several months ago. They allege that since that incident, their home has been plagued by various problems.
