Four Arrested in Kushtia for Impersonating Candidates During Tax Office Recruitment Exams

Kushtia police have arrested four individuals for impersonating job seekers during a recruitment interview for the local tax office. The suspects were taken into custody on Tuesday night at a temporary office located near the N.S. Road area after officials raised concerns about their conduct.

The individuals had arrived at the tax office to participate in oral examinations for the position of office assistant. During the verification process, recruitment officials grew suspicious and conducted a follow-up inquiry. Upon inspecting their documentation, authorities discovered that the suspects had forged entry permits and were attempting to sit for the interviews on behalf of other candidates.

The recruitment drive for 122 positions across six categories in Kushtia, Meherpur, and Chuadanga districts began following a public notice issued on May 5. After online applications opened on May 7 and written examinations were held on June 19, Tuesday was designated for the final oral assessments.

Kushtia Model Police Station officer-in-charge Kabir Hossain Matubbar confirmed that the tax department had filed a formal complaint. The case names the four arrested individuals alongside several unidentified suspects. According to police, the detainees have confessed to the scheme during preliminary questioning.

Authorities are now investigating whether a wider criminal network facilitated the impersonation attempt, with the officer-in-charge vowing to bring any additional accomplices to justice. The four men were scheduled to be transferred to prison under court orders as the investigation continues. Tax Commissioner Mahidul Islam did not respond to repeated requests for comment.
