Parliamentary Standing Committees Formed for Finance and Law Ministries

The national parliament has moved to strengthen legislative oversight by establishing two additional standing committees, bringing the total number of ministry-related committees formed in the current session to three. The latest appointments, finalized on Sunday, follow the initial formation of the planning ministry committee on June 10.

Acting on behalf of Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman, Chief Whip Nurul Islam presented the proposals for the new committees. Both motions were subsequently passed by voice vote.

The parliamentary standing committee for the Ministry of Finance will be chaired by BNP lawmaker Mushfiqur Rahman, representing Brahmanbaria-4. The committee includes Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury alongside members Nurul Islam, Mir Shahe Alam, Jalal Uddin, Moinul Islam Khan, and Shahadat Hossain. Representing the opposition, Jamaat-e-Islami lawmakers Saiful Alam Khan and Syed Zainul Abedin have been appointed to the committee, joined by NCP lawmaker Abul Hasnat.

Simultaneously, the standing committee for the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs will be led by Andaleeve Rahman Partho, chairman of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) and lawmaker for Bhola-1. Consistent with the finance committee’s structure, this panel also draws its membership from across the political spectrum, including representatives from the ruling BNP, the Jamaat-e-Islami, and the NCP.
