Man arrested in Comilla on charges of raping housewife

Police in Cumilla’s Barura upazila have arrested a 32-year-old man accused of raping a 21-year-old woman, recording the assault, and stealing her valuables. The victim, a mother of one whose husband resides abroad, filed a formal complaint with local authorities on Wednesday, prompting an immediate investigation.
According to police reports, the incident occurred late Tuesday night when the victim stepped out of her home to use an outdoor restroom. The suspect, a relative who had been lying in wait, allegedly restrained the woman and dragged her into a nearby room, where the assault took place. During the attack, the perpetrator recorded the incident on a mobile device and subsequently stole a pair of gold earrings and 100,000 taka in cash from the victim.
The situation escalated on Wednesday morning when the recorded footage began circulating on social media platforms. Following the victim’s report, law enforcement officials conducted an operation and successfully took the suspect into custody.
Barura Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Nazmul Huda confirmed that a case has been filed against the suspect for rape, robbery, and the distribution of illicit digital content. Preliminary investigations have substantiated the victim’s claims. The woman has been sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for a mandatory medical examination, and the suspect is scheduled to be presented in court on Thursday.
