Following his resignation as President of Bangladesh, preparations are underway at Mohammed Shahabuddin’s private residence in Dhaka’s Gulshan neighborhood, where staff have begun refurbishing the property in anticipation of his return. Workers were observed on Saturday morning repainting the ground-floor lounge and cleaning furniture at the apartment complex located on Road 123, signaling a transition back to private life.

The building’s manager, Kabir Hossain, confirmed that while an exact date for the former president’s arrival remains unconfirmed, the staff has been instructed to ensure the residence is fully prepared. During an on-site visit, laborers were seen preparing walls for fresh coats of paint, while furniture in the common area remained covered in protective plastic. No security presence was noted at the scene, though several media personnel gathered outside the premises to monitor developments.

Mohammed Shahabuddin officially stepped down on Friday, submitting his signed resignation letter to Speaker of the Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmad. The Speaker confirmed the vacancy shortly thereafter at the Parliament House, and in accordance with the constitution, moved to assume the interim responsibilities of the office.

The departure marks an abrupt end to a tenure that was scheduled to last until April 2028. Elected unopposed as the country’s 22nd president in April 2023, Shahabuddin stepped down approximately 21 months before the conclusion of his five-year term, citing health concerns as the primary reason for his decision.

Reports indicate that the move from Bangabhaban, the presidential palace, has been in development for several days, with family belongings already being transported to the Gulshan apartment. As the residence undergoes these final cosmetic updates, it serves as the expected primary destination for the former president as he settles back into his private residence.
