Father and son killed in Kurigram road accident

A father and son were killed in a head-on collision between their motorcycle and a pickup truck in the Rajarhat upazila of Kurigram district on Saturday morning. The fatal accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. in the Koshaitari Shimultala area along the Rajarhat-Teesta road.

The victims have been identified as 55-year-old Siddique Sheikh and his 20-year-old son, Dulu Mia, both residents of the Bogmari Panchgram area near the Kurigram-Lalmonirhat border. According to local witnesses and police reports, the pair was traveling by motorcycle toward the Teesta riverbank area for work when the collision occurred while they were crossing a railway track.

The pickup truck, which was transporting fish toward Rajarhat, struck the motorcycle head-on before the driver fled the scene. Bystanders rushed Dulu Mia to Kurigram General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Siddique Sheikh was initially transported to the Rajarhat Upazila Health Complex for emergency care; however, he succumbed to his injuries while being transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Rajarhat Police Station, Mamunur Rashid, confirmed that authorities arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to conduct an investigation. Police are currently working to identify the vehicle and its driver, and formal legal proceedings are underway.
