Seven individuals, including five children and two teenagers, died in drowning incidents across four districts of Bangladesh on Sunday. The tragedies occurred in a span of less than five hours, leaving local communities reeling from the sudden loss of life.

In Mymensingh’s Muktagachha, two cousins—six-year-old Md. Hossain and five-year-old Mariyam—drowned in a pond near their home in Raghunathpur village around 2:00 p.m. Relatives launched a search after the children went missing while playing, eventually recovering both bodies from the water. Despite being rushed to the local health complex, they were declared dead upon arrival. Police have since filed a case of unnatural death.

A similar tragedy unfolded in Nilphamari’s Dimla upazila, where two four-year-old cousins, Rupaiya Akter and Ashfika Akter, died in a pond in Uttar Sonakhuli village. Local reports indicate the girls had gone to bathe in the pond unattended around 3:30 p.m. When family members failed to locate them, they discovered the children floating in the water. They were confirmed dead by a local physician shortly after being recovered.

In Panchagarh, two teenage students from a local madrasa drowned while attempting to swim in a pond in the South Sahebijoat area. The victims, 14-year-old Abdur Rahim and 16-year-old Rajib Hossain, were classmates. Locals recovered the bodies after realizing the pair had failed to surface. Police confirmed that the bodies were released to the families following standard inquest procedures, and an unnatural death case has been registered.
