A rare albino buffalo nicknamed “Donald Trump,” which gained international notoriety ahead of the Eid-ul-Adha festival, has been spared from sacrifice following a direct intervention by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Authorities took custody of the animal on Wednesday evening after police officers arrived at the owner’s residence in Keraniganj, Dhaka. The buffalo, which had become a viral sensation due to its unique appearance, was relocated to the Keraniganj Model Police Station under orders from government officials who determined that the rare specimen should not be slaughtered.

Moniruzzaman, the owner of the buffalo, stated that he purchased the animal shortly after the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday and had recently brought it to his home from his farm. Despite the animal becoming a major attraction for curious onlookers, Moniruzzaman complied with the government’s directive to avoid any public unrest. He confirmed that the state has pledged to provide either financial compensation for the value of the buffalo or an alternative animal for the upcoming religious observance.

According to Ruhul Quddus, officer-in-charge of the Keraniganj Model Police Station, the decision was made to preserve the animal, which is considered a rare biological specimen. He noted that the buffalo will be officially transferred to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock for professional care and management.

The buffalo first captured public attention in May after local media reports highlighted its unusual features, specifically its hair and eyes, which led its previous owners to bestow it with the name of the former U.S. President. The animal’s fame quickly transcended local borders, drawing coverage from major global news outlets, including Reuters and AFP, cementing its status as a worldwide curiosity.

While the animal’s presence in Keraniganj had drawn significant crowds, including visitors who arrived only to find the animal had already been removed, the owner and his family expressed a neutral stance regarding its future. As of Wednesday evening, the buffalo remained at the local police station awaiting further transfer to government authorities.
