A 21-year-old student has died from injuries sustained after being struck by a brick while riding a moving motorcycle in Dhaka’s Mirpur area. Sajid Chowdhury Rafi, the only child of his parents, succumbed to his wounds at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) intensive care unit at approximately 7:00 a.m. Monday.

According to DMCH police outpost inspector Md. Faruk, the body has been transferred to the morgue, and local authorities at Kafrul Police Station have been notified to initiate a formal investigation.

The incident occurred on the night of June 10 in the Sheorapara neighborhood. Family members reported that Rafi was traveling on a motorcycle when an unknown assailant hurled a brick at him, leaving him critically injured. He had remained under intensive medical supervision since the attack.

Family members have identified two local individuals as primary suspects, describing them as known criminals with documented histories of legal issues at the Kafrul Police Station. While the motive remains under investigation, relatives believe the assault may have stemmed from an ongoing property dispute rather than a random act of street crime.

The victim’s family has urged investigators to examine the circumstances surrounding the days leading up to the attack, noting that Rafi had recently been in contact with several youths in the area. They believe that scrutinizing these associations will be critical to uncovering the motive behind the fatal assault. Rafi, a resident of the Ibrahimpur area, was the son of Shamsul and Tania Chowdhury.
