Chittagong University student Nazmul did not miss a single day of class in 6 years

Graduated five years. Along with one year of post graduation. Nazmul Hossain did not miss a single day of class in these six years of higher education. He was also present in every online class during the Corona pandemic. For this reason, he received a special award from the department.

Nazmul is a student of 2018-19 academic year of pharmacy department of Chittagong University. He recently completed his post-graduation classes. The university has been closed due to various reasons during its six-year university life. Still his presence was 100%. This is the record attendance in the history of pharmacy department of the university. That is, before that no other student of that department had 100 percent attendance in graduation and post graduation.

The department has recognized the continuity of Nazmul’s presence. He was given the ‘Award of Excellence’ at the farewell ceremony of former president of the department Mohi Uddin and postgraduate students on April 2.

Nazmul Hossain is 26 years old. Graduation in other departments of the university takes four years, but graduation in pharmacy department takes five years. This student’s CGPA at graduation was 3.14. Post graduation result is not published yet. But he is hoping for good results in post graduation. After getting the result he wants to go abroad for PhD degree. After that he wants to return to the country to join teaching.

Nazmul’s home is in Tulpai village of Chandina Upazila in Comilla. Father Mohammad Enayetullah is a school teacher. He is the fourth among four brothers and three sisters. From his school days, he developed the habit of attending classes regularly. He claimed that he could not go to school for three consecutive days due to illness while studying in class 10. Then the teachers came home to look for him.

Since joining the university, Nazmul has been studying from a rented house mess near the campus.

Nazmul Hossain told Prothom Alo that he did three to six tuitions at once. Still went to class regularly. Classes are online during Corona. He had a dry cough for a long time. Still attended online classes. Currently, he is working as a research assistant in two laboratories. He has already published four research articles in international Scopus-indexed journals. In addition, he received the ‘Duke of Edinburgh International Gold Award’ from the British High Commission last year.

About this achievement, Nazmul said, ‘It was my habit to attend classes regularly since my childhood. This practice was also maintained in the university. I saw every class as an opportunity to learn. Apart from the textbooks, I also learned from the experience of the teachers.

The teachers of the department are also happy with Nazmul’s achievement. Pharmacy department professor SM Moazzem Hossain said Nazmul was a regular and attentive student. He is a responsible and research active student. His gentleness and diligence set him apart from others.

Tanzina Sharmin, associate professor and president of the department, said, ‘The purpose of awarding this award based on attendance is to encourage other students. If such initiatives are continued in the future, positive habits will be developed among the students. We wish Nazmul success.
