Bogura authorities rename three controversial unions following public hearings

Authorities in Bogura’s Shibganj and Mokamtala sub-districts have officially renamed three controversial union councils following public outcry over their previous designations. The decision comes after residents raised concerns that the former names—Mirbari, Shimanto, and Diganta—bore an inappropriate association with the ancestral home and the sons of State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Mir Shahe Alam.
The administrative adjustment follows a direct directive from the Prime Minister’s office, which mandated a series of public hearings to address the local grievances. District Commissioner Toufiqur Rahman confirmed on Sunday that the necessary legal steps have been completed to formally rebrand the administrative units.

Under the new order, the union previously known as Mirbari has been renamed Betgari. The Shimanto union has been designated as Jagannathpur, while the Diganta union has been officially renamed Rohobal. The local administration has begun the transition process to update official records and signage to reflect these changes across the affected regions.
