BNP leader wounded in shooting in Khulna Rupsha upazila

A local leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was hospitalized Tuesday night after being shot by unidentified assailants in the Rupsha upazila of Khulna.

Shahinoor Sheikh, 45, serves as the vice-president of the party’s ward unit in the Bahirdia union. According to local residents and law enforcement officials, the attack occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. while the victim was seated at a tea stall in the Taltola area.

Witnesses reported that two individuals wearing helmets arrived at the scene on a motorcycle and opened fire on Sheikh. One bullet struck the victim in the leg, while a second grazed his head. Bystanders rushed him to the Rupsha Upazila Health Complex before he was transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Rupsha Police Station, Abdur Razzaq Mir, confirmed that an investigation into the shooting is underway. While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, authorities are exploring the possibility of a long-standing personal dispute. As of Wednesday, no suspects have been detained and no formal case has been filed.
