BGB Thwarts Indian Border Guard Attempt to Push Five Individuals into Bangladesh

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) forces successfully blocked an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push five individuals across the international border into the Meherpur district early Friday. The incident occurred near border pillar 135/4-S at the Radhagobindapur-Dhala frontier in the Gangni upazila.

According to local accounts, the situation unfolded around 4:00 a.m. when BSF personnel opened a gate in the perimeter fencing, allowing four men and one woman to enter Bangladeshi territory through adjacent jute fields. Local farmers working in the area noticed the activity and alerted the nearby Dhala BGB border outpost, prompting an immediate mobilization of patrolling troops.

Upon encountering the BGB’s reinforced presence, the group retreated toward the Indian side of the border. As of the latest reports, the individuals remain in the no-man’s land area, positioned near the barbed-wire fence within Indian territory.

Naek Subedar Shishir Kumar Sarkar, commander of the Radhagobindapur-Dhala BGB camp, confirmed the attempted infiltration and noted that the swift coordination between local residents and border guards prevented the group from entering the country. Security measures have since been heightened along the perimeter to monitor the situation.

Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal, commander of the 47 BGB Battalion, emphasized that the force maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding illegal infiltration and illegal “push-ins.” He stated that patrols have been significantly intensified across the sector to maintain border integrity and prevent further unauthorized movement.
