BGB on High Alert Following BSF Pushback Attempt at Satkhira Border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified patrols and heightened surveillance along the Satkhira frontier in response to attempts by Indian authorities to push back individuals across the international border. Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Ashiqur Rahman, commander of the BGB’s 33rd Battalion, issued a stern warning on Wednesday, stating that any attempt to violate border laws would be met with firm resistance.
Tensions have escalated following reports that more than 100 people have been gathered near the Hakimpur border crossing in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district. According to information gathered from BGB and other sources, these individuals were reportedly handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) by local police with the intent of forcing them into Bangladeshi territory.

Indian media reports indicate that the gathered individuals are claimed to be Bangladeshi nationals who have resided and worked in India for varying periods, ranging from six months to over two decades. Despite these assertions, the BGB has maintained a rigid defensive posture, deploying personnel around the clock to prevent unauthorized entries.
Lieutenant Colonel Rahman confirmed that the BGB’s increased presence has so far successfully thwarted any pushback attempts by the BSF. To bolster security and maintain situational awareness, the BGB has engaged in public outreach, utilizing loudspeaker announcements to alert local border communities to the heightened security climate.
