Teenager stabbed to death following football dispute in Sylhet

A 15-year-old boy was killed in a stabbing attack in Sylhet late Monday night following a dispute that erupted during a football match. The victim, identified as Rifat Ahmad, was the son of Mifta Uddin, a resident of the city’s Ambarkhana Borobazar area.
According to local authorities, the conflict originated during an indoor football match held on Technical Road in South Surma. The game involved two groups from the Gowainghat upazila’s Bichnakandi and Bangabir areas. Witnesses reported that a heated verbal exchange during the match escalated into a physical altercation between the two factions.

The violence reignited as both groups were returning from the venue at approximately 10:30 p.m. As they crossed the Kazirbazar Bridge, the confrontation turned lethal. Assailants reportedly stabbed Rifat before fleeing the scene, leaving him critically wounded.
Emergency responders rushed the teenager to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Khan Mohammad Mainul Zakir, officer-in-charge of the Sylhet Kotwali Police Station, confirmed that the body has been placed in the hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are currently working to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the attack.
