BGB Blocks Attempt by BSF to Push 11 Individuals Across Thakurgaon Border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) forces blocked an attempt by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to push 11 individuals—including women and children—across the border into Bangladesh near the Mashalgaon frontier in Thakurgaon’s Haripur upazila on Saturday.
The group, comprised of three men, four women, and four children, was spotted by authorities near sub-pillar 7 of main pillar 349 at dawn. Following the incident, security personnel from both nations maintained a tense, vigilant presence along the border throughout the morning as the individuals remained situated on the Indian side of the international boundary.

A flag meeting between company commanders from the BGB’s Mashalgaon camp and the BSF’s Bahargaon camp was held at the zero line between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to address the impasse. However, the discussions concluded without a resolution, leaving the group stranded on the Indian side of the no-man’s-land through the afternoon.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Moin Hasan, commander of the Dinajpur-42 BGB battalion, stated that while the BSF claims the individuals are Bangladeshi citizens, their identities have yet to be verified. He emphasized that no one will be permitted to enter Bangladesh without proper identification and adherence to established legal protocols.

The BGB maintains that any transfer of individuals between nations must follow recognized bilateral procedures and inter-agency coordination. Authorities have since increased patrols and surveillance along the border to prevent further unauthorized attempts to cross the frontier. Discussions between the two border forces remain ongoing.
