Bangladeshi youth killed by Indian Khasias on Sylhet border

A Bangladeshi youth has been killed by ‘Indian Khasias’ in Sylhet’s Companyganj border area. The incident took place inside the Indian border yesterday at around 8:30 pm on Thursday.

The name of the deceased is Saleh Ahmed (30). He is the son of late Biram Ali of Tuk village of Karbala, Dayarbazar post office of Companyganj upazila.

According to BGB and local sources, Saleh Ahmed crossed the border at around 8:30 pm yesterday and entered India along with two others. They are Suman Mia (25) of Nazirgaon village and Masum Ahmad (20) of the same area. They settled in the area between Chongket and Markan Bagan about one kilometer inside India.

At that time, while staying in Superibagan, people of Khasia community fired a few bullets on suspicion of being a thief. Saleh Ahmed was shot and killed on the spot. Later two others who were with him rescued Saleh and brought him to Bangladesh.

Sylhet BGB 48 battalion commander Lt. Col. Nazmul Haque said that Saleh Ahmed and three others were involved in border smuggling.

Officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station. Shafiqul Islam Khan said that after learning about the incident on Friday afternoon, the police is investigating the matter. An officer was sent to Saleh Ahmed’s house.
