Bangladesh reimposes 7 p.m. closure for shops and malls to conserve electricity

The Bangladeshi government has reinstated a mandatory 7:00 p.m. closing time for all shopping malls and retail stores across the country as part of an ongoing initiative to conserve electricity. The directive, which takes immediate effect, also mandates that all commercial billboard lighting be extinguished by the same hour.
In addition to retail restrictions, the government has ordered that all cultural events and trade fairs conclude by 7:00 p.m. to further reduce national energy consumption.

The mandate follows the expiration of a temporary relaxation period granted during the recent Eid-ul-Adha holiday, during which the government had permitted businesses to remain open until 10:00 p.m. That window officially closed on June 1, prompting officials to revert to the original energy-saving policy that was first introduced under the directive of the Prime Minister.
