Bangladesh Police Chief Discusses Cyber Security and Humanitarian Cooperation with FBI and ICRC Representatives

Bangladesh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir held separate high-level meetings with delegations from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at police headquarters on Monday.
The FBI delegation, led by Riley Palmitier, focused their discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation in cyber-policing and technology-driven investigations. Key topics included enhancing the Bangladesh Police’s cyber capabilities, managing social media monitoring, and combatting financial crimes and online fraud. During the meeting, the IGP emphasized the need to deepen collaboration between the FBI and specialized units, including the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit. He specifically underscored the importance of U.S. technical assistance in curbing the spread of misinformation and digital fraud on social media platforms.
Separately, a three-member ICRC delegation led by Head of Delegation Nicolas Fleury met with the police chief to discuss ongoing humanitarian and training initiatives. The ICRC team lauded the role of the Bangladesh Police in providing legal support to displaced populations within Rohingya camps.
Fleury reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting police training programs that focus on human rights and emergency first aid, aligned with international standards to foster public trust. In response, the IGP commended the ICRC’s contribution to the modernization of the force and called for an expansion of their partnership, particularly in strengthening the police’s capacity to manage and respond to national disasters. Senior officials from the Bangladesh Police were present at both sessions to facilitate the discussions.
