Bangladesh Foreign Minister Invites Marco Rubio to Visit Dhaka Amid Efforts to Strengthen Ties

Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman has formally invited U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to visit Bangladesh, as the two nations look to deepen their bilateral cooperation. The invitation was extended during a meeting held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in Manila on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussion focused on identifying pathways to strengthen the existing partnership between Dhaka and Washington. Both sides exchanged views on a range of regional and global issues of mutual interest, reflecting ongoing diplomatic efforts to expand ties.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir, the U.S. Ambassador to India, and Sergio Gor, the Special Envoy of the U.S. President for South and Central Asia.

During the dialogue, Secretary Rubio offered his congratulations to Khalilur Rahman on his election as the President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. In response, the Foreign Minister thanked Rubio for the gesture and utilized the opportunity to propose the official visit to Bangladesh.
