Awami League activist wounded in shooting in Chattogram’s Satkania

A 55-year-old political activist affiliated with the now-banned Awami League was critically injured in a targeted shooting late Monday night in Satkania, Chittagong. Enayet Ali was returning to his home in the West Para Sultan Ahmed area of Amilais Union at approximately 11:00 p.m. when he was ambushed by a group of 10 to 12 armed assailants.
Local Union Parishad member Lokman Hakim confirmed the attack, stating that the group lay in wait for the victim near his residence before opening fire and fleeing the scene. Nearby residents rushed to the site upon hearing the gunfire and transported Ali to the local sub-district health complex. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and is currently being moved to a facility in Dhaka for advanced trauma care.

According to the victim’s brother, Liyakat Ali, the attack may have been motivated by a combination of long-standing local disputes regarding a mosque and underlying political tensions. He reported that his brother sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, arms, and legs.
Law enforcement responded to the scene shortly after the incident. Sub-Inspector Russel Mia of the Satkania Police Station confirmed that officers have arrested a 26-year-old local resident, identified as Md. Raihan, in connection with the shooting. Authorities stated that the victim was struck by pellet rounds and that preparations for filing a formal criminal case are currently underway.
