RAB arrests five members of Pallabi street gang following viral social media show of force

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-4 has arrested five suspected members of a local teenage gang in Dhaka’s Pallabi area, marking a significant escalation in the authorities’ crackdown on criminal groups operating in the capital. The suspects were apprehended during a series of raids conducted in the Avenue-5 area late Sunday night.
The detainees have been identified as Razzab Hossain, 23, Mehedi Hasan, 30, Alfaz Ahmed Asu, 22, Sohel Rana, 39, and Shaha Paran, 23. According to a press release issued by RAB on Monday, the individuals are members of the “Bhoira-de Group,” an outfit known for violent territorial disputes. Investigators noted that Razzab and Mehedi served as key associates to the group’s leader, Ashik.

The arrests follow a surge in public alarm caused by videos circulated on social media, which depicted members of the gang engaging in a show of force to assert dominance in the neighborhood. In response to the viral content, RAB-4 launched a shadow investigation, utilizing intelligence and digital forensics to pinpoint the whereabouts of the suspects before carrying out the coordinated operation.
The suspects are known to law enforcement, with several members facing prior criminal charges. Mehedi Hasan is currently named in two cases filed with the Pallabi and Kafrul police stations. Alfaz Ahmed Asu is the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant, while Sohel Rana is also linked to a pending case in Pallabi. Following their arrests, all five individuals were transferred to the custody of the local police for further legal proceedings.

The latest operation brings the total number of “Bhoira-de Group” members arrested in recent weeks to ten. Authorities previously conducted successful raids on June 17 and July 4, which resulted in the apprehension of five other associates, identified as Parvez, Tan Akash, Shishir Ahmed Emon, Abdullah, and Al Amin.
