Authorities in Netrokona’s Mohanganj are investigating two separate attempted kidnappings of primary school students that occurred within a 48-hour span, incidents that have triggered widespread alarm among local parents and educators. In one case, a student was abducted and later recovered from a train, while another narrowly escaped by jumping from a moving vehicle.

The first incident took place on Sunday afternoon when a nine-year-old student from Mohanganj Government Primary School was intercepted on her way home. According to family members, a man forced the child into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and held her mouth shut to silence her. The girl managed to escape near the Birampur Bazar area by biting her captor’s hand and leaping from the moving vehicle; local residents later found her and reunited her with her family.

A second, more harrowing abduction occurred on Monday afternoon, involving an 11-year-old student from Daulatpur Model Government Primary School. Witnesses and family sources reported that the girl was lured toward a handkerchief dropped near the school gate. Upon touching the item, she reportedly lost consciousness and was whisked away in an auto-rickshaw. Following an hours-long search, local residents discovered the girl late that night, still unconscious, inside the dining car of the Mohanganj Express train stationed at the local railway hub. She was subsequently admitted to the Netrokona 250-bed General Hospital for medical treatment.

The incidents, which were captured on security footage circulating on social media, have prompted an urgent response from local authorities. Sabbir Hasan, the Additional Superintendent of Police for the Barhatta Circle, stated that law enforcement is investigating both cases with the highest priority.

The pattern of violence has left the community in a state of anxiety. Parents are now calling for a swift investigation, urging police to utilize CCTV footage to identify and apprehend the criminal network responsible for these attacks. Many are demanding increased surveillance and accountability to ensure the safety of students in public spaces.

In response to the growing threat, school officials have implemented stricter safety protocols. Educators at the affected institutions have issued formal directives advising all students to avoid leaving school grounds unattended, while teachers and administrators grapple with the lingering climate of fear that has settled over the local school system.
