Apprehensive of flash flood situation, request of people to cut Haor paddy within four days

The Water Development Board (PUBO) has requested to harvest the ripe paddy of the land within four days, expressing the fear that a sudden flood situation may occur in Sunamganj due to heavy rain in the upstream.
This fear was informed by Paubo on Friday. Earlier on Tuesday, the company had spoken about flash floods. In such a situation, panicked Haor farmers are trying their best to cut the ripe paddy of the land.

Light to moderate rains are expected on April 24 to 26, moderate to heavy on April 27 and heavy to very heavy on April 28 to 30. In this, the water of Surma, Kushiara, Dhanu, Boulai, Kangs and other branch rivers of Haor basin of Sunamganj will continue to increase. From April 28, the waters of these rivers may flow over the boundary at some places.
Noting that there is a risk of flash flood situation in Sunamganj district from April 28, the bulletin of the town also said that if flash flood situation occurs, there is a risk of crop damage in Haor of Sunamganj. Therefore, a special request is being made for quick harvesting of paddy in those lands where 80 percent of the paddy is ripe.
Farmers said that at this time in Sunamganj, the untimely flood caused by the upstream water coming down from the hills only damaged the boro crops of Haor. It does not damage people’s houses or roads. But the water of the river is increasing due to the rains and downpours from the upstream for a few days. In case of sudden flood situation, the water of the rivers will also cross the flood limit, according to the emergency notification of the town.

Mamun Hawladar told Prothom Alo, “The rains of Cherrapunji in upstream India pose a greater risk to Boro paddy in Howar than the rains of Sunamganj.” It is raining upstream and will increase. This may cause sudden floods in Sunamganj. So we are requesting again to harvest the ripe paddy of Haor quickly.
