Measles Outbreak Claims 835 Children in Bangladesh Over Four Months

Four children have died from measles and its associated symptoms in the last 24 hours, raising the total death toll to 835 since mid-March. According to the latest report released Thursday by the Directorate General of Health Services, the fatalities occurred in the Dhaka, Sylhet, and Mymensingh divisions.
The health authorities recorded 1,005 new cases of children exhibiting symptoms of the disease within the same 24-hour period, with 135 cases officially confirmed as measles. These figures bring the total number of affected children to 143,140 since the current outbreak began on March 15.
Data from the Directorate General of Health Services indicates that the surge in infections has placed a significant burden on the healthcare system, with 110,182 children requiring hospital admission over the past four months. Officials noted that recovery efforts have been ongoing, with 106,053 children successfully treated and discharged from medical facilities during this period.
