Death Row Fugitive Arrested After Returning Home for Eid

Police in Jhalokathi’s Nalchity arrested a death row convict on Thursday night, ending his years-long tenure as a fugitive. The suspect, 25-year-old Taijul Islam, alias Raju, was apprehended in the Sarmahal area of Kushangal Union following a tip-off regarding his return home for the Eid holidays.

Law enforcement officials stated that the arrest was executed by a team led by Sub-Inspector Aktar Hossain of the Nalchity Police Station. Taijul had been on the run since 2009, when he was implicated in a double-murder case filed at the Daulatpur Police Station in Khulna.

Following the initial charges, a court convicted Taijul and sentenced him to death for his role in the killings. He had managed to evade capture for over a decade by remaining in hiding.

Nalchity Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ariful Alam confirmed the arrest, noting that the suspect was processed through the legal system on Friday morning. Following his appearance in court, Taijul was transferred to the district jail to await further legal proceedings.
