Allegation of bribery / NCP leader’s case against two Additional Deputy Commissioners in Cox’s Bazar

In Cox’s Bazar, a case has been filed against four people including two additional deputy commissioners for demanding bribes. National Citizen Party (NCP) district wing convenor Professor Akhtar Alam filed this case in the District and Sessions Judge Court on Tuesday afternoon.

The accused in the case are Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Imran Hossain Sajeeb, former Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Nazim Uddin Ahmad, Land Acquisition Branch Office Assistant Anik Dey and Junior Assistant Mohammad Emran.

Prof. Akhtar Alam’s lawyer Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter at first sight. He said that the accused government officials-employees demanded a bribe of about four and a half lakh taka at the rate of 10 percent against the rebate due to Akhtar Alam. The court took cognizance of the case and summoned the relevant documents.

Plaintiff Akhtar Alam has a “dishonor” case with him over land acquisition money of a person named Syed Noor. The court ordered Syed Noor to pay the money, but due to legal complications, the money could not be given directly to Akhtar Alam. Attempts are being made to settle the matter in coordination with the court.

In the statement of the case, it is mentioned that in 2019, Akhtar Alam lent Tk 15 lakh to Maheshkhali resident Chayid Noor. After not getting the money back, he filed a case in court. The court ordered Syed Noor to pay the money. But Syed Noor did not give the money. Then an application was made to the land acquisition wing of the district administration to pay the dues from the money allocated in the name of Chayed Noor. Later the court granted this petition. However, the defendants in the case did not return this money to Professor Akhtar Alam. On the contrary, a bribe of four and a half lakh rupees was demanded against this money.

When asked, the plaintiff in the case, Akhtar Alam, said that there is a clear allegation of demand for bribe in the case of withdrawal of land acquisition compensation. He has approached the court hoping for justice.
