Textiles and Jute and Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has commented that the increase in the price of fuel including diesel will not affect the price of goods. Showing calculations with examples, he said, the amount of increase in the price of diesel per liter has not created a situation to cause price inflation. The cost of transporting the goods will also not increase the price of the goods.

The minister said this in response to questions from reporters at the opening ceremony of multipurpose jute fair at Zia Hall premises in Narayanganj city on Saturday afternoon. Earlier he visited Chittaranjan Textile Mill located in Godnail.

The Minister of Commerce showed the calculation with examples about the increase in the price of fuel and the price of products. He said that a truck needs 30 liters of diesel to go from Dhaka to Chittagong. The price increase for 30 liters of oil in a truck will be 400 taka. The truck will have 10,000 kg of product. If 10 thousand kg is divided by 450, the increase is not more than 45 paise per kg. The minister said, “If someone says that the price of goods has increased due to the increase in oil prices, then you will counter it by presenting the real facts of my words.”

Khandaker Abdul Muktadir urged journalists to present real information so that no one can increase the price of products unnecessarily. Regarding the slowdown in exports, he said, it did not happen suddenly. A global recession has been brewing since the Russia-Ukraine war. It has increased slightly due to the war in the Middle East. War has closed or restricted very important sea lanes. The price of petroleum products has increased. But more investment will be attracted in coming days.

In the management of gas supply, priority has been given to private sector factories after electricity, said the commerce minister. We have taken a crush programme, so that jute seeds can be produced in our country in the shortest possible time.”
