After being granted bail in five cases related to the anti-discrimination student movement by the High Court, former Minister of State for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Dipankar Talukdar has been arrested in three new cases. As a result, he is not released from prison for now.

On Monday, three separate Metropolitan Magistrate Courts of Dhaka ordered his arrest after the hearing in view of the police application of the concerned police stations.

On this day, Dipankar Talukdar was brought to the court from the jail and requested to be arrested in three separate cases of attempted murder of Paltan Model, Bangshal and Bhatara police stations. Sub-Inspector (SI) of Paltan Model Police Station Biman Tarafdar, Officer of Banshal Police Station AKM Mahfuzul Haque and SI of Bhatara Police Station Jyotirmoy Mandal applied.

After the hearing, Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam and Metropolitan Magistrates Nazmin Akhtar and Mohammad Ehsanul Islam ordered his arrest in these three cases.

Counsel for the accused Mizan Mohammad Mohsin said, “He (Dipankar) has got bail in five cases from the High Court. The bail was filed on May 13. During the process of release from prison, the police requested to show arrest in three new cases. Although we heard about not showing the arrest, the court ordered to show the arrest in all the cases and send him to jail.

Dipankar Talukder is a five-time former Member of Parliament elected from Rangamati Constituency. In 1991, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for the first time on the nomination of Awami League (currently banned) in the fifth national parliamentary election. After the Ninth National Parliament, he served as the State Minister of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts.

He was in hiding after the fall of the Awami League government in the July mass coup. Later on February 10 last year, he was arrested from Sobhan Bagh area of ​​the capital. After that, he was arrested in various cases and remanded. He is currently in jail.
